The team from Oxford Brookes University staved off the wave for the longest – eventually being caught at the 4.5km mark, 13 minutes and 42 seconds after setting off – retaining the crown they won in the inaugural OutRow event last year.
The first crew to be caught by the wave were the University of the West of England from nearby Bristol, which just goes to show you: water doesn’t respect local favourites.
Morgan Bolding from the victorious Brookes crew said, “We are really happy with this victory. The team was different from last year ,but the win is staying with Oxford Brookes, which is great. Once we were on the bore, it was really serious racing against the other teams, but at the same time we had a lot of fun!”.
