Oxford Brookes University Boat Club investigation

Following recent media reports relating to training methods within Oxford Brookes University Boat Club, Oxford Brookes University has now launched an independent investigation into the concerns raised.

The investigation will consider whether the materials shared online and other aspects of the behaviour and culture of the coaching at the Club are in accordance with the University’s commitment to provide an inclusive and respectful culture in every aspect of university life, and with the law more generally.

The University has appointed specialist lawyers at Penningtons Manches Cooper to conduct an independent investigation and to prepare a report based on the findings of their investigation. The University will then consider whether any further steps are required in the light of that report.

Oxford Brookes invites current and recent members (meaning those having left in the last five years) of the Club, who wish to take part in the investigation, to contact the investigating team at Penningtons Manches Cooper (brookesrowing@penningtonslaw.com) or via https://www.penningtonslaw.com/obubc, in order to arrange a confidential video meeting. In keeping with the purpose of the investigation, meetings will focus on the culture and behaviour at the Club, rather than the performance of the Club.

Students who need support can contact the University’s Student Welfare and Support Advice Team.
