An update on coaching at OBUBC (25 May 2025)

Following the recent independent investigation by Penningtons Manches Cooper LLP, which considered the evidence and views of a range of stakeholders, Oxford Brookes has been giving careful thought to the future direction and leadership of the Boat Club.

With the independent investigation now complete, the University and Boat Club are working hard to implement its recommendations and outcomes. Now that many of these changes are underway, the University believes that now is the right time for the Boat Club to move forward under new leadership.

As a University, we now look forward to continuing the Boat Club’s successes and building for the future, through enhancing the inclusive and respectful environment in which all of the athletes feel safe and can flourish.

We recognise that these latest developments may be unsettling for some Boat Club members. Our priority is to ensure that the necessary coaching is in place to support athletes during this key part of the season and as they prepare for Henley. We remain very grateful to British Rowing, who continue to support us with guidance and practical advice on how we can ensure high quality coaching is in place for all Boat Club athletes.

The University has updated Boat Club members on this latest development and is continuing to provide support through the University’s Student Welfare and Support Advice Team as well as specialist support staff within the Sports Department.
