Yesterday saw the last of the women’s fixtures take place on the Tideway with Brookes taking on Cambridge University. There were some tricky conditions for all to deal with across all racing due to the amount of stream from recent rain, meaning that the flood tide was almost unrecognisable. In Blue boat fixture, two pieces were rowed between the start line in Putney and St Pauls and then the Mile Post for 8 minutes. After a quiet start to the racing season in the UK, yesterday saw the return of the fixtures on the Tideway with the Brookes women taking on their upstream rivals, Oxford University. With calm water and blue skies, the conditions were ideal for a day of racing. The pieces for these fixture races took place as 3x 5-minute pieces along the Championship course. Brookes Rowing take on Shanghai Head of the River Regatta 2023
BROOKES|Shanghai Head of the River Regatta 2023 Last week, Brookes had the huge fortune of being invited to the Shanghai Head of the River Regatta raced on the Suzhou Creek situated in the heart of the city. Brookes were represented by a men’s and women’s VIII in the 3rd edition of the race. A group of 23, including athletes and coaches were a part of the travelling team. The race has been expanded to include not only the university and club groups, but also the elite and youth groups, making the race more professional. Senior World Championships 2023
Belgrade, Serbia was the stage for this year’s Senior World Championships, where there were 14 Brookes athletes who were competing for Great Britain, the USA and Monaco. All of the racing had the added reward of Olympic qualification for the 2024 Paris games up for grabs at the regatta. The British Men’s 4- made up of an all Brookes contingent included, Oliver Wilkes, David Ambler, Matthew Aldridge and Freddie Davidson. Brookes athletes claim Gold in Plovdiv, Bulgaria In a hugely exciting week of racing, eight Brookes athletes represented Great Britain in multiple crews at the U23 World Championships being held in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. After a great build up to finals, several British crews looked to be in contention for fighting alongside the world’s best competition for medals. Having won their Heat, the Men’s Eight with Tom Bryce, Fergus Woolnough, Toby Lassen and Louis Nares who recently claimed glory at Henley Royal Regatta progressed straight to the A-Final. BROOKES|Rowing takes step into immortality after outstanding performances at Henley Royal Regatta After qualifying 94 athletes to the regatta, across 15 crews, the stage was set for a phenomenal week of the highest quality racing against the best crews from around the world. The week culminated in a record-breaking set of results with 7 wins out of 7 finals on Sunday. The first ever clean sweep of student events. A feat that was never fully planned nor its gravity comprehended at any point during the season. The largest ever trophy haul for the rowing club in the history of the regatta. Henley Women’s Regatta caps off a great weekend for BROOKES|Rowing
Oxford Brookes Women claimed both the Championship and Academic Eights at Henley Women’s Regatta while the Men put on a dominant display at Marlow Regatta In a first for the regatta, Brookes took home both the Ron Needs Challenge Cup for Championship VIIIs and the Colgan Foundation Cup for “Aspirational” Academic VIIIs. It personifies the huge strides the women’s group has made in recent years led by coach, Hugo Gulliver. Brookes take on Metropolitan Regatta 2023 Brookes took to Dorney lake this weekend to race the Metropolitan Regatta which provided the whole squad a great opportunity to prepare on a multi-lane course in the lead up to Henley Women’s Regatta and Henley Royal Regatta in the approaching weeks.
