GBRT February Trials + Henley 4s & 8s

Over the weekend Brookes had a large day of racing at the Great Britain Senior and U23 trials in Boston, Lincolnshire and Henley Fours and Eights.

In Boston, some great results were produced by both members of senior national team, as well as current athletes in the Brookes program. After a fantastic result in November, Matt Heywood and Jack Prior backed up their performance with a 5th place against some of the best athletes in the country. David Bewicke-Copley and Morgan Bolding were 2nd and Tom Digby and David Ambler were 4th.

Grace Richards and Rhianna Sumpter were the fastest U23 W2- and Olivia White was the 3rd fastest U23 Lightweight Sculler. Some really positive results and experience gained ahead of a busy period of racing for the Brookes women.

In Henley, the men had a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finish in Open Eights with the first division. Claiming pennants in Band 1 and Band 2 in the process. The women placed 1st and 2nd, winning the Band 1 pennant. The Brookes contingent at Henley were joined by a Taurus crew who raced in the Masters D category. It was great to see a group come together, who played a key role in getting Brookes to the standard that it is today, have another race down the course. Several of the group who raced still play a key role in giving back to the club.

Brookes look forward to welcoming back members of the national team in a few weeks time as preparations continue to build pace as we approach the later part of the winter season. A busy period of racing approaches with Reading Uni Head and the Men’s Oxford Fixture two weeks away and WEHORR just three weeks away.
