Jamie Copus wins GBRT 3rd Assessment

Final year student Jamie Copus headed the strongest showing in recent years from BROOKES|Rowing athletes by winning this weekend’s GB Rowing Team 3rd Assessment.

Copus, who raced in the LM2x at last year’s World Rowing Championships in Sarasota, took victory in the LM1x by just 0.3s over his doubles partner Sam Mottram. Brookes had three athletes in the top 5, with FISU hopeful Ben Reeves finishing 3rd and Joel Cassells taking 5th.

Matthew Tarrant, with his partner Josh Bugajski who raced in the Ladies Plate for Brookes last summer, secured 7th spot in a large field in the men’s pair. This result was followed up with 8th place for Rory Gibbs and Morgan Bolding 3 seconds behind. A storming second half for Matthew Aldridge and Henry Swarbrick helped them claim 13th spot.

Richard Hume produced one of the fastest U23 times in the M1x category to finish in 13th place

On the women’s side, Annie Withers claimed 4th spot overall with a fantastic result in the W2-. Susie Dear and Zoe Taylor also finished in a strong position, being one of the top U23 and FISU pairs.  Imogen Mackie recorded another great result in the LW1x to take 10th place overall, one of the fastest FISU eligible times.

There were a number of other solid women’s results, highlighting the strength in depth of the triallists this year

BROOKES|Rowing now turn their focus to eights as the men’s and women’s squads look to prepare for their Boat Race Fixture against the University of Oxford on the 24 February.
