British national record – 5:30.8 – Marlow Regatta
With world records falling at World Cup II in Poznan, OBUBC were breaking records of their own once again, this time at Marlow Regatta. Brookes’ Ladies Plate crew won the final of Championship 8’s, setting a new Brookes record and British national record of 5:30.84, with the Temple crew also setting another all-time British student record of 5:34.26. It was a thrilling race to watch, with both crews showing relaxed classy form as they went at it hammer & tongs, over a length up on the rest of the field. Both these crews will be fighting for red boxes in the Ladies Challenge Plate and the Temple Challenge Cup.
There was further success at the regatta, with the 2nd Temple crew winning the Tier 2 final by over a length. The composite 4x with Taurus also had a good showing, mirroring their result at Met to come 4th in Championship 4x’s. Taurus’ Visitors 4- entry raced one more time as a coxed four, finishing 3rd in an extremely competitive field.
Matt Martinez and Alex Bavage won the B final of Championship 2x, improving on their result from Met Regatta, with the 4th Temple crew winning the University/College category in style, showing they will be very competitive in Temple qualification. The P.A. 4+ that came 6th in the final of University/College 4+’s has some work to do, but are grabbing every chance to improve between now and Qualifiers.
With the release of entries and pre-qualified crews for Henley Royal Regatta, it would be fantastic to see as many Brookes alums and Taurus members as possible down on the towpath, to cheer on the following crews that will be racing at Qualifiers this Friday:
Remenham 8+ ‘A’ – 2:28pm
Remenham 8+ ‘B’ – 2:28pm
